VODA Makes top 3 in the CDN Channel Elite Awards
CDN’s Channel Elite Awards recognizes IT Solution Providers for their innovation, leadership and commitment to creating value for their customers. There are nine categories outlined in this year’s Awards Program.
VODA Computer Systems has been nominated as one of the finalists at the 2009 CDN Channel Elite Awards in the Best Marketing Initiative category that will be taking place September 29th, 2009. The event will be held at the Paramount Conference and Event Conference Centre.

The EHF is not a tax. It funds the Return-It Electronics Program
As of August 1, 2009, the Environmental Handling Fee (EHF) that is levied on the sale of new products in the designated categories has been adjusted. One-hundred percent (100%) of the program revenue will be used for the administration, collection, transportation, and responsible recycling of end-of-life electronics.
Products not regulated within the program will not have a fee levied and, consequently, will not be accepted at Return-It Electronics Collection Sites.
Desktop Computers - $5.50
Portable Computers - $1.20
Display Devices 29" and Smaller - $9.00
Display Devices 30" and Larger - $31.75
Desktop Printers - $6.50

Combinations computers, all-in-one, monitor combo machines:
- All-in-one computer products such as this will be considered a 'Display Device 30" and Smaller', and would attract only that associated EHF: $9
Bundled computer systems (i.e.: where a retailer may offer a single price for a CPU, monitor, keyboard and mouse):
- A single EHF will be charged for each obligated product SKU
- Where products from more than one category are sold within a single SKU, the single highest applicable EHF will be charged. (NOTE: this does not apply to all-in-one, or integrated products. See above for those specific products.)

VODA Tip
Notebook computers are susceptible to overheating -- There is a fan inside all laptops that is designed to keep it from overheating. However, sometimes the fan is not enough to keep your laptop cool, or sometimes it stops working entirely and you have to take certain measures to keep the laptop cool on your own.
To keep your fan working properly for as long as possible, dust your computer often. The fan has to work extra hard when there is extra dust inside the computer, and if you dust regularly, the fan won't experience as much wear and tear.
Another way to keep your laptop from overheating is to prop it up off of your desktop or other surface so that the fan creates the maximum amount of circulation possible for the laptop -- This can be as simple as using a medium sized book underneath the back of your laptop, but be sure not to cover the fan vent. Position the book so that the fan can blow freely.

Ask the VODA Expert
Q: How can I change the default wallpaper folder to my pictures on Windows XP?
A: Have you ever wondered why Windows XP has such terribly ugly wallpapers to choose from? On top of that, there's no way to easily change the list of backgrounds to a folder you might actually use ... like your My Pictures Folder.
There's a fairly simple set of registry instructions you can use to make Windows look in a different folder, but it you want to get rid of Blue Lace 16 you'll also have to delete it manually. (The standard warnings about registry editing apply here)
With a name like "Bliss" you would think I would be less tired of seeing this:

Change Wallpaper Folder
Open up regedit.exe using the start menu Run box, and then navigate down to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

On the right-hand side you should see a value called WallPaperDir, which defines the folder Windows uses to populate the list. If the key does not exist, then you can create a new string value with the same name.
Double-click to change the value, and then paste in the full path to your My Pictures Folder. (Note that you could specify any path here if you wanted to.)

The change should be immediate, the next time you open the Desktop panel... but you'll notice a number of default images still in the list. Turns out that Windows also queries the Windows folder for images...
To get rid of those, browse to C:\Windows and then look for the set of horribly ugly Bitmap files:

You can delete these images to make them stop appearing in the wallpaper selection list, just be careful not to delete anything else in your windows folder.
