SonicWALL’s Continuous Data Protection (CDP) Appliance
Too often, we find that data protection solutions aimed at the SMB market stop short of providing a true “plug and play” functionality that covers all aspects of data protection, recovery, and long-term archival. In most cases SMB were unable to address all aspects of data protection. The result: a protection gap.
Customers will have this appliance up and running in under an hour. It is as close to “plug and play” as we have seen in disk-based data protection.
CDP was developed specifically with the small-to-medium business in mind - there are no tapes or disks to manage and the appliance includes simple, centralized administration. With the highest standards of reliability, data integrity and security, CDP protects your business, not just your data.
Easy To Use Appliance:
The first and most notable factor for this product is its extremely simple appliance based approach to disk-based data protection. SonicWALL CDP is a true appliance, shipping in 192GB, 300GB, 800GB or 1.2TB GB capacities. Leveraging a lightweight Adaptive Backup Engine (ABE) to perpetually monitor network usage, the CDP appliance automatically backs up files and databases using user-defined policies, in real time.
Any Point in Time Recovery:
SonicWALL’s CDP tracks block-level changes in data as they occur, enabling the user to pick a historical version a document from any point in its protected history, and restore it from disk, immediately.
Protection Efficiencies:
Many SMB backup utilities simply monitor file activity and provide file-level protection, but SonicWALL CDP drills more deeply, monitoring the block write activity on each protected host. By working at block level, the appliance makes compression much more efficient (comprehensive compression ranges from 2:1 to 5:1 depending on file type), creating smaller file transfers on the network. Additionally, it enables the offering to copy and backup open files, such as Outlook email or other databases, without disruption of customer’s applications or the network. This level of granular data protection is an absolute requirement for achieving zero data loss.
Offsite Protection:
A clear differentiator for CDP is its "no-touch" offsite backup feature, which uses SSL encryption, advanced compression, and backup of only binary differences. An on-site SonicWALL CDP can be configured to send backup data to a secure SonicWALL offsite datacenter without any user intervention. This offsite feature protects data against the risks of fire, theft, misplacement and other issues relating to tape or CD-based backup.
Compliance:
SonicWALL’s CDP meets and complies with all federal and industry regulations on the protection, accessibility, and retention of information. Beyond the minimum requirements for security and retention of information, SonicWALL solutions meet all the following federal regulations:
- HIPAA: The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996
- Sarbanes - Oxley: The Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act of 2002
- Gramm-Leach-Bliley: Protects consumer’s financial private information
- SEC / NASD: Securities and Exchange Commission / National Association of Securities Dealers

The Best MP3 Players According to Reviews
by A. Gloria Ramirez
Apple iPod Best large-capacity MP3 player. (30GB)
The iPod leads the market among hard-drive players, and it's still a strong favorite in reviews. The latest iPod plays both photos and video on its color screen, but according to reviews the 2.5-inch screen is too small for extended viewing. If you don't need space for 7,500 songs, the iPod nano and Zen Micro Photo are smaller and lighter than the 4.8-ounce iPod. The Creative Zen Micro Photo doesn't have the iPod's easy interface, but the Zen Micro does have an FM tuner and voice recorder, and it's compatible with the latest music-subscription services. The iPod has none of these features. A 60GB iPod sells for $400. The iPod is both Mac and Windows compatible.
Apple iPod nano Best MP3 player overall. (2GB)
The iPod nano is only about ¼-inch thick and weighs 1.5 ounces. According to reviews, the iPod nano tops all other MP3 players in reference to style, sound quality and ease-of-use. By using flash memory instead of a hard drive, it has no moving parts, making it a better choice for the gym than the full-size iPod; it also includes a lap counter. The 2GB nano, which stores nearly 500 songs, is PC and Mac compatible. Despite the widespread raves for the iPod nano, reviews and owners say it scratches very easily, and that using a protective case is a necessity instead of an option.
Creative Zen Micro Photo Most features. (8GB)
The Zen Micro Photo, which comes in one of ten colors, is the best iPod alternative for those with Windows-centric music collections. It plays copy-protected WMA songs purchased from online stores like Napster, and it's compatible with the latest music subscription services, which allows you to 'rent' music on a monthly basis. The Zen has an FM tuner and a voice recorder, both missing on the iPod and iPod nano. The Zen, however, is heavier (4 ounces) and bulkier than the much-sleeker iPod nano, and it's not as easy to use as any of the iPod models. Sound quality, according to reviews, is excellent. The Zen is only compatible with Windows XP.
MobiBLU DAH-1500i Smallest MP3 player. (1GB)
The MobiBLU is about the size of a caramel candy -- about a one-inch cube. But remarkably, according to reviews it's also a pretty good player, with a lot of features crammed into its tiny body. It has a tiny OLED display, an FM tuner and a voice recorder in a .63-ounce case. The MobiBLU is easy to use, and though sound quality is good, reviews claim it's not up to the level of iPod and Creative. At about 8.5 hours, battery life is a bit short. The MobiBLU works with both Windows and Mac computers. The MobiBLU comes in six colors and is also available with 512MB (est. $100).
Budget MP3 player. (512MB)
The Zen Nano beats the iPod Shuffle in price and sounds great, according to experts. It comes in eight different colors (including pink and orange) and doesn't skimp on features, with an FM tuner, LCD display, voice recorder and line-in recording -- all features missing on the competing iPod shuffle. It runs 19 hours on a single AAA battery. Experts say the Zen Nano Plus is the best inexpensive lightweight flash player -- it weighs just 1.3 ounces. Its 512MB memory holds about 60 songs.

"What can I do to prevent having problems with my laser printer?"
|
 |
Like a car, you can lengthen the life of printers with a little maintenance. Most printers will have a paper count to help determine when to have a maintenance kit installed. Each printer is different and this is under ideal conditions. Your printer will need cleaning at least once a year because of Kamloops' dry climate. The pickup rollers may also need replacing before this interval. Problems with rollers may be loud groaning noises, picking up too many sheets at once or not at all. This should be performed by a trained technician. Dirty pages or squeaks can be caused by either refilled or faulty toners. A quick test to see what the cause of many of these problems is to simply try another toner. Keep note that the drum within these toners are sensitive to light and should be covered if not in the printer. Whenever you are loading paper, you should fan the paper to help remove some of the static from each sheet. With each of these points, you can help prevent brake downs which seem to always happen at the worst time.
